Maroondah Reservoir Park is one of Mamma’s favourite spots for a family picnic! This parkland reserve is brimming with birdlife, beautiful gardens, and lovely family walks. Be sure to check out the reservoir spillway—usually spectacular in spring after good rainfall. Walking along the base of the dam wall is a trippy experience; the echoes off the wall are loud and the gutter at the bottom is perfect for racing leaves when water is flowing. Mamma highly recommends hiking up the Rose Stairway to wander along the dam wall—the views are stunning, and you can turn it into a full bushwalk loop if you continue on the other side. After your walk, there’s plenty of space to spread out your picnic, though watch out for the local bird residents: some cockatoos and rosellas are friendly, others are a little cheeky (bird feeding is prohibited in the reserve).
