National Steam Museum – Scoresby is a charming and nostalgic spot, perfect for exploring with little kids, especially if they’re fascinated by big, classic machinery and old-school engines. Every Sunday, you can wander through the museum’s buildings and outdoor displays to see how things used to work in the past, with plenty of large, impressive engines to marvel at. While there are some interactive exhibits, it’s mainly about the “WOW” factor when you see those enormous machines. The best way to explore the outdoor displays (which stretch across a couple of footy fields) is aboard the mini rail. For just $3 a ride, you can board at the Scoresby platform and take a fun loop around the centre, with the breeze in your hair and kids laughing along the way. If you visit on the last Sunday of the month, you can catch the monthly running day, where some of the machines come to life and show off their steam-powered might. The museum is run by passionate volunteers, who love sharing their knowledge and making the experience even more special.
