Wow, talk about worth the wait! The Pauline Gandel Children’s Quarter at the transformed State Library is epic, with craft stations, sensory toys, building blocks, dress-up costumes, reading nooks, study spaces, a kitchen area, pram parking, accessible bathrooms, a family room, and, of course, beautiful books. Upstairs on Level 3, the ‘Children’s Castle’ terrace overlooks the second-floor space and is packed with LEGO, desks, and cozy corners for older kids. You could easily spend a whole day enjoying story time, borrowing books, and playing dress-ups, then stop by the licensed Mr Tulk cafe with its striped umbrellas for amazing coffee and food. Public libraries are such a brilliant, free resource, and this one is truly like nothing you’ve ever seen—plus, it’s walking distance from Fitzroy Gardens for a picnic on the way home!
